Nathan Birch began his professional career as a member of The John Curry Skating Company in 1983, touring world wide and performing with live orchestras in theaters including The Metropolitan Opera House, The Kennedy Center, and The Royal Albert Hall. In 1988 he, along with Tim Murphy, co-founded The Next Ice Age, a dance company on ice, in Baltimore, MD.  Throughout his career Mr Birch has appeared in, choreographed and directed a number of television specials for the BBC, PBS, and NBC, and has worked extensively with Dorothy Hamill, Ryan Bradley, and Emily Hughes. He and his company have been awarded City, State, and Federal Arts Grants in the Field of Dance, including 3 consecutive Individual Fellowships from The National Endowment for the Arts. Under his directorship, The Next Ice Age was presented twice at the Kennedy Center, as well as at the prestigious American Dance Festival for which he received a Doris Duke Award for the Creation of New Work.  Currently, he, Mr Murphy, and The Next Ice Age are featured in the new full length documentary, The Ice King, about the life of Olympic Champion, John Curry. Celebrating 30 years, The Next Ice Age continues to break boundaries in figure skating, both in performance and education.
